Holding a Document

You there on the field the task in front of you is immense, it's a self organising system and there is so much to do. Where do you start?

You assess

Financials

Governance

You pick One. I will do this you announce to the group and now whats next for you.

Some people thrive on now being in charge of an area, they think its theirs and for whatever reason by thinking this we are now as a community much better of because you have done  this

Community is grateful

Now what do you do?

Now what do you do?

Over the years i have learnt these are really like hot potatoes as they really arent going to be where you wnat to be in this organisation if you see any mid to long term, future with it.  So one of the questions is how do you let it go, what systems do you put in place, one day I'kll document, one day I will find a 2ic, one day we will have many eyes over and insert your model here. I am going to say you should never have built it around you in the furst place and so the easiest time to wean people off asking you questions is to point trhem in the direction of the documentation where their input is also highly valued.

This tackles the shut door because its in your head

so start a doc, straight away and start writing down all your thoughts, shape it and share it with someone as soon as possible, get feedback and then put the link to the doc for others to comment on in the eyes of everyone

This way the group is assured you have done something and you will not be the filter or hold up when it comes to aggregating knowledge around the area you are looking after,. So get others to help you hold up the doc, add to it, share it

after awhile you should be looking at lots of people commenting/editing the doc

maybe spin of an FB page for it

Images of people raising a flag, sometimes feels like

the lessons from dancing guy

in community development w

This document is current white board for the group. Everyone comments, nothing is set in stone

By directing all energies to raising the doc and asking otheres early to help you is by far the easiest way to get a  group going aorund an area, a space, a group of tasks.

Group I mean thoise who see no heirachy whish no control and who only seek to help create what the group views for itslef. Theya r enot seeking ownership, Theya re rasing the doc on behalf of others to amke it easier for otehrs whoa re keen tos ee what is being done and come joingn them through ways which ar efirnedly

them to add their thoughts. It saves you carrying around your thoughts and ensures when new people are coming into a group they are all reading from the same page and not hearing someone elses interpretation.

It also shows how much you value their input, all is welcome, it is processed, handled fairly, equitably, transparently. It is all goes to making a community space where there are clear ideas of what’s happening in the heads of many not just one or two.
To be Key facilitators i think you know you have done your job when you have nothing to do, you are there ready to jump in when processes have failed or eventually lead to you.

People seeing their suggestions handled well encourages others to have faith in the process of a community driven model
end rant:)
